A BOLD INSTALLATION CHOICE

DJ Morrow, described by the New York Times as “One of the greatest avant-garde balloon artists in the United States”, turns balloons into fine works of art. Each sculpture commands attention through a surprising reinvention of the medium, balancing dramatic composition with handcrafted detail.

He’s mounted solo exhibitions in Houston and installed work in New York City, and is opening his books for private events, galas, and conferences. His work has taken him across borders, inviting commissions both domestic and international.

Every piece tells a story:
of beauty and struggle,
of connection and purpose.

In 2025, Semmel Exhibitions brought Morrow in as a featured Artist in Conference, commissioning a koi fish centerpiece for the annual Experience Economy Meeting (TEM). He took the floor before a room of industry leaders to unveil the finished work, with attendees gathering close to take pictures.

Temporary Art With A Permanent Impact

As an object, a balloon explodes with association. As art, it pairs the whimsy of childhood with a mature appreciation for the ephemeral. It is a spectacle that demands a picture, and yet pulls the audience into the moment, magic made tactile in a familiar medium. It exists only in the now. What won’t last is felt all the more fiercely. The balloon art grounds your guests in the present, where they connect with the people around them.

Shaped To Your Vision

Whether it’s a gala, a grand opening, a product launch, or a brand activation, the work is built to anchor the occasion, and it carries just as easily into illustrative and figurative pieces.

Colors to fit your brand, symbols to fit your mission.

Inquire

Tell me about your event, the date, venue, rough budget, mood and aesthetic. You don’t have to know what you want yet. A sense of the occasion is plenty, and I’ll shape the rest.

Design

I design a site-specific concept, one that tells a story and elevates the event without overtaking it. You’ll see the visualizations and build details, and approve the direction, before any quote is final.

Build

With the design finalized, I build and install it by hand, bringing in a team I know and trust when a build needs them. The work scales to your budget, big or small. I maintain it through the run and take it down cleanly when the event is over.

When the event is over, I provide you documentation:

FAQ

How far can you travel?

I’m based in Houston, Texas, and travel globally. Balloons pack down small and each piece is built on-site, so distance is rarely an obstacle, even for international commissions.

Can you install outdoors?

Yes. Outdoor work just needs designing around the conditions. Heat, humidity, and wind all change how balloons behave, and are accounted for at the start. None of it is a deal-breaker, and I’m glad to work something out to fit your environment.

What are the balloons made of?

My balloons are made from renewable, biodegradable latex. No plastic, no helium.

How long will the sculpture last?

Each piece is built to last as long as your event needs. Indoors, a sculpture typically holds 4-5 days with upkeep through the run, and I can build it to last two weeks or more when an event runs long.

What documentation do you provide?

Every commission is professionally photographed, and you’ll get images of the full sculpture and the details, to use freely in your own promotion and social media. I keep the rights to feature the work in my portfolio.

How much lead time do you need?

Ideally a few months ahead, which leaves comfortable room for consultation, design, and logistics. When the date’s sooner, I can work on as little as two weeks’ notice.

How do you price a commission?

Every commission is custom designed for your event, venue, and budget. A single feature piece and a full sculptural installation are each priced to the ambition of the work.
