Saturn Devouring His Son
9″ x 16.5″ open edition print on Platine Fibre Rag Canson paper
A recreation of Fransisco Goya’s grotesque fresco, Saturn Devouring His Son. This piece kicked off the unrestricted phase of my balloon art after its popular reception on Reddit. I had always felt there was a line I couldn’t cross with my art while still pursuing gigs as a children’s entertainer. The popularity of this image helped me to rethink my priorities and decide to stay true to my artistic sensibilities, as dark as those often are.
The original painting fascinates me not only for its arresting imagery, but also due to its private creation. It was discovered posthumously and its name and subject matter merely a hypothesis. This gruesome display of cannibalism was solely for the artist, painted on his dining room walls.
