Opening Reception: August 19th 3pm-6pm
Artist Talk: August 24th at 2pm
My upcoming exhibition, “Out of the Strong, Something Sweet”, will include both balloon sculptures and some very large paintings, which delve into my experience growing up in The Family International, the cult formally known as The Children of God.
On display in print is the first part of my Samson series, which depicts my struggle with the isolation and alienation of being brought up home-schooled with an ideology of elitist separation from the world, and the struggle to break down the barriers that resulted from that.
The centerpiece sculpture of the show is the 2nd part in the Samson series, in which I wrestle with my family legacy while also taking steps to appreciate the wonder and joy that I experienced throughout my unconventional childhood.
This exhibition, funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance, and hosted by The Jung Center of Houston, Texas, will be a living, breathing exhibition, featuring a balloon environment that will change and grow throughout the week. So please come by to see me work with my unique medium and don’t miss my talk on the final day!
